We can help your business with:

Financial Statement Preparation

Sometimes you require a formal set of financial statements which pulls together your financial results and presents them in accordance with professional standards in an easily-readable format. This is also known as a “Compilation” or “Notice to Reader” engagement because they are based upon information provided by the client and no assurance is expressed.

Financial statements are required for filing a corporation’s tax return. They may also be requested by your bank, shareholders or investors.

The staff at Cody & James CPAs take pride in making sure you understand the meaning behind the numbers on your financial statements so you can make informed management decisions about your company.

Business Tax Filing

Cody & James CPAs provides business tax return preparation services to sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.

If your business is a sole proprietorship or partnership, the personal income tax return is used to file your business’ financial results. Since you will be declaring all your income using the one tax return, whether it is income from employment, a business, or a rental property, please check our Personal Accounting page  for other important information.

If your business is incorporated, a corporate tax return is used to file your business taxes – the T2 form. This requires the preparation of formal Financial Statements.

A financial controller is responsible for ensuring that all accounting functions are appropriately done and documented. Controllership services are critical for a business that’s growing but not big enough for its own accounting department yet. Our staff can provide periodic oversight and analysis of your bookkeeping, design management reports, coordinate with an audit firm, develop budgets and forecasts, perform cash management functions… and they love doing it

One of the more important aspects of operating a business is having an accounting system in place that can track all your business activity.

A good system can help by:

  • giving you reports that track your cash flow,
  • helping you stay on top of government filing requirements, and
  • guiding your business to steady growth

The staff at Cody & James CPAs have many years of experience in providing meaningful, well-organized financial records. We can be involved as much or as little as you want – monthly, quarterly or annually – depending on the size of your business and how much of your own number crunching you want to do.   Bookkeeping services can be provided at Cody & James, located at 260 Milroy Drive, Unit 1, Peterborough, or on-site at your location.

Payroll can be very intimidating – taxable benefits, CPP, EI, income tax deductions, ROEs, WSIB, T4s… there’s so much to keep on top of!

The staff at Cody & James CPAs have the expertise needed to ensure you have accurate payroll records so you can sleep at night. You tell us the employees’ hours, we can arrange direct deposits or provide the paycheque amounts, and the remittance for statutory deductions and WSIB. Plus, we prepare and file the ROEs and T4s. How easy is that?

When you go into business for yourself, there are a million questions that need to be answered. For example:

  • Do I need to register for HST? If not, when should I?
  • Do I need to register for payroll or WSIB? If not, when should I?
  • Should I incorporate?
  • What year-end should I choose?
  • What records should I keep? For how long?
  • How healthy are my financial results compared to other similar companies?
  • How can I improve my financial results?
  • Should I buy/lease a company vehicle?
  • Is this the right time to sell?
  • Is this the right time to expand?
